This is a walk-through for changing the oil on the VTX. The process is the same for both 1300s and 1800s regardless of model. I have to say thanks to David from the VTXOA for snapping these pics and doing the initial write-up which served as a template for this write-up.The only way to either drain or re-fill inverted (VTX 1800) forks is through the large cap at the top. It can get stuck pretty easily so you want to be sure you use a box end wrench or you'll likely round the corners and then really have a problem. Just don't sweat getting every last drop out of each bottle you should be fine. Just double check with the dipstick. You should be good to go with that "method". Like.I changed the oil following the shop manual's instruction and added 3.9 Quarts of new oil. I started the bike, warmed her up, shut her down, waited a short while for the oil to settle into the pan, and checked the level. The level is still showing high. In any case, the oil in there shouldn't be excessive.
